school when senior ron chan united a student body with something as simple as a basket. ((chris maathuis)) it wasn't just any basket. that would be too easy. it took ron 3 years of waiting, working and never complaining. as a teenager with austism, ron worked as team manager.. until this year. ryan fretz/coach; "we knew last year at the end of the year we were going to put ron on the roster this year, if we had to have 15 on the roster and make him 16, he'd been on the roster." ((patranya bhoolsuwan)) > the search is on for survivors... after two military aircraft collided in hawaii. it happened late thursday off the coast of oahu. the coast guard says the planes involved were from the 1st marine aircraft wing. a total of 12- people were on board. witnesses in the area say they heard a loud boom over the water and saw a big flare in the sky. according to officials..an empty life raft was found earlier today but no one was on board./// ((paul joncich)) > the stock market ended the week with another steep decline. the market plunged hundreds of points right from the opening bell. and ended up losing 390 points. investors took their cue from the oil market after prices slumped below 30-dollars a barrel....the lowest level in 12-years. falling oil prices have already led to hundreds of thousands of

students are flexing their creative muscles with robotics.. ((patranya bhoolsuwan)) they're designing and developing robots, for a competition... brian loftus has the details in today's "what's cool at school!" ((brian loftus)) fourth-and- fifth graders at twitchell elementary are beyond busy - in full preparation mode for a robotics competition. they need to make sure their robots, or bots, are ready to perform on the big day stacy carpenter co-chair of robotics club "they started with miniscule pieces and parts, and now they have this robot, and it does things, and they've coded it - and it works....so i think they've really felt like they accomplished a lot together already." ((brian loftus)) the competition is weeks away, and the goal for the bot is to be able to complete various tasks - like rolling up and down ramps, and using it's claw to pick up a ball, and make a shot collin moxley 5th grade "you have to have the right sensitivity, so you can still make precise adjustments so you're not way off on on one side of the ball

these are student ideas and designs! strategy is utilized as they iron out details, and,the excitement for their bot to maybe stand out, builds with each day... demi lira 5th grade "excited, and nervous...cause i don't know if the robot is going to fall, or if its gonna work properly." ((paul joncich)) but as we get closer to the first caucuses - one candidate is getting closer to trump. weijia jiang is following ted cruz on the campaign trail to find out how the texas senator has risen up in the polls. >hundreds of ted cruz supporters showed up in columbia, south carolina to hear the texas senator's pitch on why he should be the next president. (cheers) cruz is threatening to knock donald trump out of the top spot in the polls. on thursday night he attacked the billionaire businessman-- and his hometown values --during the fox business network's debate. are getting some much needed love from a 4 legged friend! that's what's happening at the children's center in saint louis. the staff has recruited the help of reka, the do to help kids as they recover from their traumatic experiences. the playful dog sits with children as investigators interview them. reka's handler says the dog helps take the edge off and creates a more playful environment for kids to open up: (((amy/reka's handler) "kids come into a place and are about to describe the horrible things that have happened to them and they usually get distracted by reka and they're excited about meeting her instead of worrying about telling their story." )) ((patranya bhoolsuwan)) > reka's handler amy has experienced her healing power first hand. she's says the dog helped her and her daughter after they were both victims of an assualt./// ((paul joncich)) > during every unlv home game a standout clark county teacher is honored. it's a person who is making a difference in the lives of our children. here's sports director chris maathuis with today's teacher of the game.
